To use it, follow these steps:

1. Hold the thermometer by the top or the bottom and shake it to force the mercury down to below 95°F (35°C).
2. Place the thermometer under your tongue, with the tip at the back of your mouth, and close your lips around it. Hold it in place for 2-3 minutes, until the mercury stops rising.
3. Remove the thermometer and read the temperature. It should be around 98.6°F (37°C).
4. Carefully wipe the thermometer clean with a tissue or alcohol swab and store it in a safe place.
